I went to the Zoo today for the first time in about two months. I can't believe how long it's been. I had a really great time, and I spent most of it chatting. We saw the new caiman and got stuff for Volunteer Appreciation something or other.
Little Manny the snow monkey is
really growing up. He is just the most adorable thing, especially when
jumping around. He was also pretty funny sitting on top of his surrogate
mother and doing some lackadaisical grooming. I tried to get a bunch more
photos of him, but he was too fast for me to catch on camera. Just like
a human kid.
The penguins were molting, which
always makes me feel a little bad for them. They look so uncomfortable and
sad. But afterwards they are so sleek and newly minted. The one in back
with white eye patches is a Gentoo, the rest are Chinstraps, due to the
black line under their chins. The Chinstraps are the smaller and more
agressive, a little Napoleon complex in the wild, if you will.
And I saw a bullfrog! How cool is
this? No idea why his eye is purple in this photo, though. They are
incredibly hard to spot, the only other time I've seen any was right
after they cut down all the cattails and they had nowhere to hide.
You can't imagine how excited I was.
