This was a sad day. Amy, past co-daycaptain, decided to join her co in departing the zoo. She is going back to school, while still working full time, so she says that she won't have enough time for volunteering (I'm not sure we believe her). I suspect she will pop up now and again. Especially if we have any more mexican fiestas, like we had for her good-bye luncheon.

From left, on the sofa: Filomena, Dawn, Amy, Rebecca, Emily and myself. Seated in front is Jeanne, and before her is the feast, I mean fiesta! From left: Jeanne, Josh, Dawn, Steve, Giconda, Andrea and Amy. David is missing because he had to run to work, of all places. Note the pizza pringles and purple rabbit.
That rabbit was part of Amy's going away gift, since she has two of her own, we thought she'd appreciate one that doesn't need to be fed or cleaned up after. Amy, Laura and Rebecca. Laura was visiting from Saturday B, I'm sure this was a bit of surprise for her, but she joined right in and also took the first group photo. Thanks Laura!

And in Animal news, there was a new snow monkey baby! That makes two babies and Manny, who just turned one on May 22nd. The new babies were born on May 16th to Gwyne and May 26th, we think, to Erin.

Here are the two mothers. Erin is on the left, looking rather exhausted. You can't really see Gwyne, but don't worry, she moved. Here she is with her baby, isn't it adorable! I know, they're all adorable, but still.
The baby moved around quite a bit, so a lot of the photos I got were blurry, but it was still exciting to see it scamper. Here it is, a rare moment, on it's own. Hard to believe Manny was that small once as well.

Finally, in bird news, there were lots of new chicks. Not that I saw any of them, but I was told that the palawan peacock pheasants, Opal-rumped tanagers, red crested cardinals and paradise tanagers all had chickies.

A close up of the sunbittern, female. She was calling for a mate, the zoo-selected mate had been separated from her because they were attacking each other. Perhaps it was love gone bad? Here's one of the crested wood partriges. I love that crazy crest of feathers on their heads, they're such funny looking birds. Sorry for the glass glare, I haven't figured out how to shoot through glass yet.
Amy's favorite bird, the fairy bluebird. I have to admit, it does have impressive coloration. But so does the honeycreeper, at least the male anyway. The female, as you can see, is more gray-green.

Whew, so that was our day at the zoo.
